New Album “Get In Line”

Get in Line is the 12th album of original songs to be released by Saint John, New Brunswick musician and writer Brent Mason. A somewhat stripped down follow up to the Fireflies, this ten song effort finds Brent returning to the approach to recording that made his debut album Head for the Highground such a compelling statement; no drums, and tracking vocals and guitar together for a more authentic, emotive delivery.

The writing, always a hallmark of Mason’s work, remains strong and on point. It’s what you would expect, and more, from “the David Adams Richards of NB songwriters”, buttressed by beautifully complimentary playing and production.

Track listing:

1)    Are you Ready – A folk/pop toe tapping rumination on what might wait were one to embrace it.

2)    Enough of Tomorrow – A country-esque post-plague lament on the news cycle that infects our days.

3)    Bottom of a Well- a deep down, minor-key ode embracing of the way it is.

4)    Billy Stirling’s Blues – A  bluesy telling of the story of a local man who had once been a promising athlete but ended on the street-  had a big heart but a hard upbringing

5)    We’ve Got Love- Every record needs a love song. This is that.

6)    The Grass Ain’t Greener- a tongue-in-cheek bluegrass lament on getting older featuring some might fine picking.

7)    The Eyes Have It- stop if you’ve heard this one: “Guy walks into a bar and sees an ex after many years…”

8)    You Made Your Bed- Actions have consequences. A country/blues number about living with choices big and small.

9)    Get in Line- the title track is a country/gospel-ish singing along that could easly have 3000 verses, and almost did. In the end, everyone’s just getting in line, right?

10) Only Passing Through- inspired by a unscheduled watching of A Streetcar Named Desire, and the words of Blanche DuBois as she’s about to be taken away, velcroid to the idea of living each day as best you can.
